Ms. Lauryn Hill resurrected with Wyclef Jean at the Essence Festival in New Orleans Friday night for a shock production of 4 Fugees music. Although neither Hill nor Wyclef were mentioned on the unique festival roster, neither were they mentioned, Hill took the stage 30 minutes into Wyclef’s set to perform “Kill Me Softly” “How Many Mics” “Fu-Gee-La” and “Ready or Not.” Wyclef shared a video on Twitter of the moment Hill entered him at the venue with the title of “Helicopter-Freedom”, “This is what it sounds like when a true GTA. O. A. T enters the arena!” Last week @ MsLaurynHill showed up as my headliner at the next dinner @ essencefest – This is what it seems like when a real GAME star performs at a dinner. O. A. Before that, the team hasn’t been resurrected since 2006. The Fugees are scheduled to go on a 25th anniversary journey this year, but it was nixed because of the COVID-19 superbug. The group also shared their thoughts on social media, “The continued Covid pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe. An idea sparked to honor and celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘The Score’ but we see now it may not be our time to revisit this past work.” “We’re grateful for the special night we just got to talk with many of you in New York, with that unique active present” the statement continued. “If chance, emergency responders, and booking permit, we wanted to be able to reconsider this quickly. Thank you for some of your help and support throughout the years.”.
